Meet Some of the Founding Members for A Home for Pathway
Petey is our longest standing resident at K9. He was adopted as a puppy, rescued from a drug raid. Unfortunately, the trauma Petey suffered stayed with him. Petey has anxiety leading to aggressive fear with new people. Most would have given up on him, but we knew Petey deserved more. Petey is amazing with other dogs and loves living at K9 with his friends. This is Petey's home and a place where he can live safely.
Greta was adopted from the Paterson shelter by a seemingly kind man wanting to "save" her. Greta was extremely fearful, and we supported the adopter with training. Sadly, her owner came into money and left her behind. Being abandoned again was devastating to Greta, but she has flourished at K9. Despite her fear, Greta quickly becomes your best friend with patience, love and compassion. Her favorite things are walks in the park and playing dress up!
Ophelia was found wandering in East Orange, bleeding from her backside, slowly dying from an infected uterus. She was discarded when she could no longer be bred for money. Pathway immediately rushed Ophelia to the hospital where she had emergency surgery, recovered and learned to trust and love. In time, our sweet hippo even had the possibility of a forever home, but that was all torn from her after the carelessness of humans sent Ophelia and Pathway into a legal battle for her life. Because of our steadfast determination, Ophelia was released to us, and Animal Control publicly stated that Ophelia, a dog they pressured us to kill, was a good dog involved in an unfortunate accident. Our chubby hippo came out kissing, welcoming belly rubs and in desperate need of some exercise and a diet! Even after ALL of her history, K9 welcomed her with open arms.
Adeline is a so tiny for a pit mix that you can't help but smile when you see her cute little wiggle. She was found in Newark after a dog fight where she had been left to die. Adeline was rushed to the hospital where we took over her care to save her from being euthanized. While Adeline loves all humans, particularly children, she had been taught to fear, and likely fight, dogs. Adeline is an adorable, sweet, loving little girl who loves to curl up on your bed or take a lazy stroll and lay in the grass. Adeline is very laid back and the perfect companion. While K9 is not the ideal placement for Adeline, they never gave up on her, despite her challenges.
